Date for Fourth Annual Hair for Hope Announced

May 17th, 2012 by Lorrie Walker in Special Event

We are delighted to host this year’s fourth annual Hair for Hope on Thursday, Oct. 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The minimum length to donate is 8 inches, and the hair must be clean and product-free. Hair that is bleached, permanently colored or treated with any kind of chemicals will not be accepted, and it cannot be more than five percent grey.

Donors will receive a free haircut, a $5 off coupon for their next visit and the feeling of joy that comes from helping others. Last year 50 participants donated hair, but we hope to exceed that number this year.

Donated hair collected during the event is donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which makes wigs from it. Those wigs are given to women battling cancer via American Cancer Society wig banks located throughout the country. It takes about six ponytails to make one wig.

These wigs restore a cancer patient’s self-confidence, and help them to forget the tribulations associated with their battle, says Michael Rose, owner of Michael Rose Hair Designs.

“I lost my mother to cancer, which is part of the reason this event is so important to me,” said Rose. “Hosting this event allows me to give back to a cause that I care about. After all, what better way for a hairstylist to support women diagnosed with cancer, than by cutting the hair for the American Cancer Society to make wigs out off. I’m proud to help a cause that has affected so many.”

There will be lots of vendors, food and other festivities happening in conjunction with the cut-a-thon, so there’s something for everyone- even if you aren’t donating your hair. Please come, and tell your friends, too.
