Growing Your Hair Long? Follow These Tips

HairWe work with the Pantene Beautiful Lengths charity each year when we host our Hair for Hope event- a “hairoic” cut-a-thon to benefit women battling cancer.

Their site is packed with great information, including some tips for growing your hair. If you’re considering participating in Hair for Hope, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, now is the time to prepare!

Pantene Celebrity Stylist Danilo has offered up some great advice for growing long, healthy hair:

- Use conditioner after every wash to help keep hair moisturized and protected from damage.

- Avoid using brushes on wet hair. Instead, use a comb with smooth, wide-set teeth to gently detangle hair after it is washed and conditioned. Remember to work from the ends of your hair to the roots.

- Use a spray, leave-in conditioner for extra protection when using heated hair appliances.

- Don’t try to blow-dry soaking wet hair immediately. Instead, towel-wrap your hair for 10-15 minutes and remove excess water before using a blow-dryer.

- Be on the lookout for new technology in your drying and styling tools to help keep damage at a minimum.

- Root-lifter spray can help increase volume. Do that instead of excessively teasing your hair, because teasing can uplift cuticles and make them fragile and prone to breakage.

- Don’t overbrush your hair, as it can lead to breakage. Regular, gentle brushing promotes hair health and natural oil distribution.

- Remember to use deep-conditioning treatments once a week, or as often as needed, to help minimize split ends and keep hair in top condition.

- Trim your hair every eight weeks or less. Routine salon visits are essential in keeping hair healthy and beautiful.
