Pageants provide a venue for women to overcome shyness, showcase their talents, develop life skills and strive for excellence. Michael Rose’s expertise as a Lakeland pageant coach and stylist helps women bring out the best in themselves by preparing them for all aspects of competition.
From interview preparation and on-stage presentation to hair and makeup styles that accentuate the most flattering facial features, Michael Rose coaches women to success. He has worked in the pageant industry since 1975 and is certified as a pageant judge through the judging school of Barbara Kelley, an internationally known pageant expert.
A Rhode Island native, Michael has coached women in pageants throughout the northeast. He has continued his coaching services since moving to Lakeland, FL in 2007.
Michael serves as the northeast director for hair styling for the Miss USA pageant owned by Donald Trump and his salon is the official salon of the Mrs. Florida America pageant.
Looking Your Best
“Michael has a fantastic eye for helping a girl look her best in a pageant,” says Claire O’Connor, Miss Massachusetts America 2004. “He can look at a girl and say whether she would look better as a blonde or a brunette, or if her hair should be shorter or longer. He knows the best way that a girl would represent herself, and he can make her have the confidence because of the style and look he gives her.”
As a competitor, Claire always checked out her competition behind the scenes and she says she could tell which girls had gone to Michael to prepare for the pageant. Those girls always looked prepared.
Claire says she thinks Michael’s secret to success is his warm and welcoming, yet honest demeanor.
“When you would come through the door of his salon, you would feel like you were being treated like a celebrity,” she says.
From Girl-Next-Door to Glam
Jenna Wims Hashway, Miss Rhode Island America 1998, says Michael took her from “absolutely the least glamorous, most girl-next-door,” to a pageant champion.
“Michael has a real generosity of spirit,” she says. “If he’s going to be in your corner, he will be your No. 1 biggest fan.”
You Are Your Own Competition
Michael also is known for telling pageant contenders what they need to know, not necessarily what they want to hear.
