5 Tips for Vacation Ready Hair

April 5th, 2012 by Lorrie Walker in Uncategorized

Deciding what to wear on a vacation is a job on its own, and finding hairstyles to go with those outfits is just as aggravating. To ease the stress of trip preparation, here are five easy tricks to maintain a fabulously coiffed mane throughout your trip with only a few bobby pins, an elastic and a barrette.

Embrace Messy Hair
The last thing you want to pack on vacation is a bulky blow dryer and a flat iron. Instead, opt for embracing your slightly messy hair. Run some anti-frizz cream through the rough patches and finger comb any visible knots. For an extra chic touch, pin one side back with an embellished bobby pin.

Like Big Buns (Don’t lie)

A simple, chic way to tame your hair on vacation is a messy French bun worn high on your head. This hairstyle screams, “I’m laid-back! I’m exciting! I’M ON VACATION!”

Simply pull your hair straight up and twist it until it forms a loose bun around itself, and pin it in place with bobby pins or an elastic depending on how thick your hair is. If you pin your hair up while it is still damp, it will dry in loose waves that are perfect for a night out.

Dry Shampoo is Your Friend

After a long day of sightseeing, generally a shower is a good thing. But you’re on vacation and every second is precious. A quick spritz of dry shampoo boosts your hair’s volume, soaks up oil, and makes your hair smell nice, too.

Simple is Beautiful (Easy Hardware for your Hair)

Remember the simple barrettes from back in the day? They’re making a comeback. Goody’s “Jenna” barrettes have been spotted on runways all over the world in the last year. Try emulating this cool ponytail spotted  in Prada’s Fall 2011 collection by teasing your hair at the crown and using the barrette to secure your hair at the nape of your neck.

Viva La French Braid!

A tried and true hairstyle that will never fail is the French braid. Braid your hair before you go to bed with a dab of mouse, and in the morning your hair will dry in loose beach-worthy waves. Another option is the side-braid. Use your own hair as a headband and braid the front half of your hair sideways. If you’re super-daring, try a waterfall braid. View a tutorial here.
